There are several good web sites which provide a wide range of information as well as lists of accountants.
ICAEW 
Web site of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, with a useful section for the public. Free service allows you to search the official ICAEW database of over 25,000 Chartered Accountant firms worldwide to find a firm in your area.
ACCA
Web site of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Includes free access to a Database which has been designed to help businesses and individuals find qualified accountants in their area.
CIMA
Web site of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. A range of information including a database which contains articles drawn from a wide number of different sources including many CIMA publications.
AccountingWEB
Comprehensive web site aimed at accountants, but includes a wide range of accountancy news and information which is generally useful. A directory of accountancy firms searchable by name or postcode. A directory of firms supplying the accountancy market - add your firm to the list. Access the Computer Software and Services Directory either by joining AccountingWEB or on payment of a fee of £10 for 24 hours use.
Accounting Standards Board
This British organisation was founded at the beginning of 2001. It campaigns for national accounting standards, but also for an international standard. The Web site gives details of ASB's aims and current projects. Summaries of standard accounting practice are given. Full standards can be sent for. Financial standards for smaller organisations are also given.
