Online vendors 'going green'

Both business and consumer serving online customers are increasingly adopting environmentally friendly business practices, according to a new report from Online Market World (OMW).

The study indicated that a number of large organisations are now working collaboratively to design products with suppliers that reduce waste and energy consumption costs.

It also suggested that some companies are attempting to improve their corporate impact and provide better customer service by adopting green measures, while reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and regulatory compliance were identified as other key objectives.

OMW learned an increasing number of companies are also implementing formal green programmes which include written policies. Respondents from technology companies claimed to be the most proactive in their adoption and expansion of green initiatives, ahead of retailers and agencies.

According to research from Aberdeen, some 80 per cent of companies are attempting to transform their supply chains in order to cut costs, meet customer demands and bolster their green initiatives.
