Welsh businesses face climate change challenge
The Welsh minister for environment, sustainability and housing has outlined the challenges and opportunities posed by climate change.
According to Jane Davidson, the Welsh Assembly Government is committed to helping companies to reduce carbon emissions and
developing goods and services that will "drive a low carbon economy in Wales".
Addressing the Prince of Wales' May Day Business Summit on Climate Change in Cardiff, Ms Davidson stated: "We now want to see a change of gear to accelerate the speed of change.
This is essential if we are to meet the targets we have set for emissions reduction and the diversion of waste from landfill."
The minister added that the Green Jobs Strategy and other initiatives in Wales will help the drive towards a low carbon economy, which will not add to climate change impacts.
Supported by the Carbon Trust, Envirowise, the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and other organisations, the summit saw 740 pledges made by more than 100 businesses in
Wales at the 2007 event reviewed.
Research by car hire firm Enterprise Rent-A-Car found that two out of three small and medium-sized enterprises are failing to take notice of the current environmental debate, with cost seen as the greatest
hurdle to change.
