Business outsourcing activity 'remains strong'

Despite economic uncertainty, outsourcing activity among both small and large businesses remains strong but the time needed to develop outsourcing and service delivery strategies does seem to be increasing.

Questioning enterprises around the world, analyst EquaTerra learned that demand levels for outsourcing contracts have risen for 52 percent of respondents, with an average increase of nine percent compared to the same period last year.

The study also indicated that demand growth levels are similar in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America, and that IT outsourcing demand continues to exceed that for business process outsourcing.

Stan Lepeak, managing director of research at EquaTerra, said: " As clarity around the economic outlook emerges, buyers have fewer internal options often making outsourcing a critical tool to address a variety of business problems and opportunities."

He explained that these matters include everything from cost reduction and capital avoidance, to driving innovation into core business processes and gaining greater access to global resources and talent.

The research also revealed that 60 percent of enterprises implementing recruitment process outsourcing were driven primarily by the need to accelerate the recruiting and hiring process.
