Unified communications drive business growth

In news that may be of interest to small businesses in Wales, it has been claimed that unified communications (UC) solutions are driving enterprise business growth by allowing companies to improve process efficiencies and also reduce the size of their carbon footprint.

According to IDC, chief information officers are under increasing pressure to ensure that communication applications and systems are aligned with business processes, something that UC facilitates by integrating disparate communication systems into an interoperable system.

"Business communication is on the cusp of a new era in which it will play a central role in helping information workers deliver with speed and accuracy," said David Cannon, programme manager for telecoms at IDC.

"Unified communications transforms commonplace business applications into smart intuitive collaborative environments for instant decision-making and fast turnaround."

While the largest communications vendors are pushing UC implementations forward, a report from analyst Infonetics suggests that a number of IT organisations are still put off by the complexity of totally integrated communications and would prefer to stick with legacy PBX (private branch exchange) solutions.
