Web sales offer small businesses benefits

Small businesses could generate extra sales without having to outlay significant amounts of time or money by selling through a website, the managing director of StartupCo has suggested.

John De Groot stated that aside from companies who are online-only, for many small businesses "sales through a website can offer low investment growth opportunity, with potentially a high return on that investment".

However, he also stressed that "the absolute key is the ability to generate enough traffic to the website to get the best sales end result".

Mr Groot also noted that security is an issue, but suggested that business owners can protect themselves by using reputable providers of online shopping carts, merchant account and payment encryption systems.

StartupCo was founded over 20 years ago to provide help and advice to people thinking of starting a business.
