IE to continue its dominance, expert predicts
Internet Explorer (IE) will likely continue to be the dominant web browser, despite some competition from the upcoming launch of Firefox 3, an expert has forecast.
In news that may be of interest to small businesses in Wales and the rest of the UK, Ben Camm-Jones, news editor for Web User magazine,
said that Firefox's market share "is rising very gradually".
Figures from Net Applications indicate that Firefox had a 14.95 per cent share of the UK web browser market last year, which grew to
17.35 per cent by 2008
"I think Internet Explorer's still going to be the dominant force," Mr Camm-Jones said, explaining that this trend is due to the fact that "people have just become used to" using it.
"It's very difficult for any other company to get a look in," he added.
Mr Camm-Jones said that Firefox is less popular as a web browser in the UK, compared with its prominence in the US and other "developed internet nations".
