European enterprises 'encouraging adoption of green IT services'
Leading organisations from Europe are making a sustained drive to go green and tasking IT departments with helping them reduce corporate energy consumption, according to new research from Forrester.
The analyst found that this move by enterprises towards environmental responsibility is encouraging IT vendors to seek help from professional service providers to implement green initiatives for the
procurement, operations and disposal of IT resources.
Forrester also observed that strategists from a large range of IT services providers – from datacentre specialists to corporate strategy consultants – are looking to participate in this emerging
global market.
Speaking to business technology website IT Week, Forrester analyst Christopher Mines, said that initial efforts to make IT greener will focus on
datacentre energy efficiency.
It's top-of-mind for most clients because problems like growth or power capacity limits and returns like energy cost savings, are highly tangible," he explained.
The analyst predicted that the market for Green IT consulting services would be worth $4.8 billion (£2.4 billion) in user spending by 2013, with European spending peaking at $2.1 billion (£1
billion) in 2014.
