Business web presence is "very important"

An expert has highlighted the importance of a web presence for businesses, arguing that firms that fail to take advantage of new technology risk losing customers.

The head of operations at Technology Means Business, Dr Adam Le Gresley, said that a website is "very important" for companies, especially for "attracting new custom".

He added that those without a web presence may be losing out to those that have one, as customers are increasingly likely to "start off using a search engine" when trying to "locate a particular product or a specific business".

Dr Le Gresley warned: "If your company is not listed or doesn't have a website, it is likely that a new non-referred customer will choose the next best provider they find."

A survey released earlier this month by the Interactive Media in Retail Group revealed that 97 per cent of people living in the UK have used the internet to make a purchase.
