Analyst: Wireless expense management reducing mobility lifecycle costs

Enterprises are using wireless expense management (WEM) technology to reduce the costs of their wireless voice and data services by up to 31 per cent, analyst Aberdeen has claimed.

New research from the company indicated that organisations are increasingly deploying WEM solutions to add value to their mobility investments.

Through organisational capability and enabling technologies such as inventory management and telecom service provisioning, best-in-class companies are reducing the total cost of device management by 26 per cent on average, it added.

"Mobility deployments and their ongoing management require a holistic lifecycle approach to cost reduction," noted Ralph Rodriguez, senior vice president of research for technology markets at Aberdeen.

"This is because mobile devices are distinct within the enterprise and are inherently un-tethered, giving them distinct obsolescence issues while being truly mission critical to the end-user. Because of this, enterprises must look for every opportunity to drive down wireless costs," he explained.

A previous report from Aberdeen revealed that nearly 80 per cent of organisations are implementing telecom expense management tools to reduce wireless costs by up to 40 per cent.
