UK firms lacking business continuity plans
More than one fifth of large businesses operating within the UK have no detailed business continuity plans, a new study from IDC has revealed.
The research, commissioned by BT Global Services, indicated that major organisations are making large oversights and failing to
appreciate the risk associated with IT downtime.
IDC found that in 63 per cent of companies, responsibility for business community lay with IT departments and that the issue was rising up the corporate agenda.
However, 49 per cent of respondents said that business leadership teams were also becoming involved in the business continuity decisions and 37 per cent admitted they were planning to increase
investment in business continuity this year.
Ray Stanton, global head of business continuity at BT Global Services, said: "It's interesting to see that so many businesses plan to up spending in such a tough climate.
"However, businesses need to think carefully about how to spend money. The right business investments don't just protect against threats, they help to build customer confidence and
enhance the brand."
