UK enterprises report growing dissatisfied with ISPs

One in every ten business broadband subscribers has opted to change internet service providers (ISPs) in the last half a year, with even more likely to do so in the next six months, it has been claimed.

Research from broadband industry analyst Point Topic revealed that a growing number of businesses are "fairly" or "very" likely to change their broadband supplier in 2008, with cost being the most pertinent reason for choosing to switch.

Respondents to a survey commissioned by the company revealed that, as broadband charges continue to decline, many companies look to take advantage of contract cycles to sign up for the most cost-effective products.

Oliver Johnson, chief executive of Point Topic, urged broadband ISPs to up their game, in light of the findings. "They need to continually improve the quality of their customer service and reliability of their broadband lines," he said.

"That is what most businesses when asked up front will say is most important to them. However, price is also a major driver too when it comes to swapping."

While 40 per cent of those likely to change cited price as the most important reason, 19 per cent quoted quality of service, while an additional 13 per cent chose customer service.
