Security warning over fake Microsoft email
Security firm Sophos is warning web users that an email appearing to come from Microsoft is actually infected with a virus.
The email, says the protective service, has the subject line Internet Explorer 7 Downloads and contains an image offering a beta version of the product.
However, the icon is reportedly infected with the Grum-A worm.
Sophos' Graham Cluley said: "The problem is that to the casual observer the email looks genuine and the image displayed looks near identical to the imagery that Microsoft is using on its website to
promote Internet Explorer 7.0."
Mr Cluley commented that Microsoft is a regular target for malware.
In related news, a study from Webroot has found that more than two in five companies have experienced business problems due to viruses.
The survey also found that over 60 per cent of companies do not have a web security plan in place.
