SMEs missing out due to hard-to-find websites
Small businesses are missing out on the benefits of having a website because people using internet search engines are unable to find them quickly, according to a survey by iProspect.
The marketing firm found that 90 per cent of internet users look at just the first three pages of search results and rarely explore beyond this. It also found that 62 per cent of users click on an entry from the first page of results.
Robert Murray, president of iProspect president, said: "There's no question about it. This study clearly shows the increased importance of being found in the top search results.
"The message to marketers should be clear, and the implications obvious. If your site is not found on the first page - or within the first three pages of search results - you might as well be putting up a billboard in the woods."
Aside from the obvious advantages of being at the top of the search engine rankings, iProspect also discovered that 36 per cent of internet users consider companies appearing at the top of the search list to offer better services than those further down.
