Enterprise Java application architectures are used in business process management projects in Fortune 1000 companies. So called, n-tier architectures utilise modern thin client technologies while achieving a separation of concerns between database storage and business logic. Approaches to model-driven development provide reduced development times while using design patterns to take advantage of architectural best practices. Against this backdrop, iterative and incremental development methods reduce project risk. Some common causes of project fatality are introduced and life saving first-aid techniques for managers are discussed.
