Swansea University is hosting the 22nd British Colloquium for Theoretical Computer Science (BCTCS) from 4th-7th April. BCTCS is a forum in which researchers in theoretical computer science meet,
present research findings and discuss developments in the
field. The conference is the second in a series of three conferences, "Exploring the Science of Software Development" organised by Swansea University's Computer Science Department in association
with ITWales and the Welsh Assembly Government.
Each conference programme within the series includes a business breakfast event aiming to demonstrate to business the relevance of developing accurate and reliable software. We are delighted that
Sir Tony Hoare has accepted our invitation to present at
this breakfast and hope you are able to join us for what promises to be a fascinating look at the science behind software development.
Sir Tony is an influential British computer scientist who is credited with developing various wide-ranging algorithms and specification techniques used throughout the computing industry. In 1980, Hoare
received the ACM Turing Award for his "fundamental
contributions to the definition and design of programming languages", and in 2000 he was awarded the Kyoto Prize for his "pioneering and fundamental contributions to software science". These two
awards represent the top international accolades available
to a Computer Scientist. Also in 2000 he was knighted by Her Majesty the Queen for services to education and Computer Science.
