Profile: ETL Solutions
by Sali Earls
Winners of this year's Technium Challenge, ETL Solutions are a North Wales based data integration company. Sali Earls spoke to ETL's CEO, John Bigerstaff to find out the secrets of their
success.
What's the history of your company?
ETL Solutions was founded in 2002 as a management buyout of PrismTech's data integration product and development team following investment funding from Finance Wales and the National
Assembly for Wales.
We concentrated initially on three main market sectors - Geoscience, Finance and Education. We launched Version 2.0 of our product (Transformation Manager) later that year and within 18
months successful proofs of concept had been completed and licences ordered from major companies and organisations in all three sectors.
By now, we have also expanded into the Supply Chain sector and our product has developed dramatically in features and flexibility.
What unique products/services does your company provide?
Our product is called Transformation Manager (TM). It is a
data integration suite that enables companies to exchange and update complex data between different computer systems without costly
reformatting. It has been adopted by global financial institutions as part of their global trading systems, by oil companies to move historical data to new systems and by companies integrating their supply
chain.
TM provides for the creating, testing and debugging of data transforms between virtually all forms of data, by Extracting, Transforming and Loading the data according to the users'
requirements.
We're not just a software products company, however. We offer a full range of services, such as consultancy, training and customer support.
What's been the key to your success?
First, the quality of our employees. We have a team that is both highly qualified and committed. ETL has nearly 35 collective years of transformation experience. We believe in offering a high level of
customer service and support. We aim always to satisfy the customer's needs and demands.
Secondly, a high quality product that can successfully handle the most complex
data integration requirements.
What one piece of outside technology has benefited your company most?
Ironically, it is not one technology that has benefited us, but the countless technologies with their conflicting data formats. This very confusion has given our company its' raison d'etre.
What one piece of advice would you give to start-up companies in your field?
Ensure that your clients are completely satisfied, listen to all feedback and respond appropriately.
Where do you see your company going in the future?
The future looks most promising with more and more international clients and partners using our product each month. We are seeking to recruit new people to the business to fit a variety of positions
and expect to widen the client base in the existing sectors as sell as entering some new sectors this coming year.
