Half price computers for staff thanks to Comcen and the HCI

Swansea based IT company Comcen have launched a Department for Trade and Industry (DTI) backed project - Comcen4Home - to give employees a computer at home with significant cost savings. The scheme also benefits employers by offering companies potential National Insurance Contribution savings of up to £192 per employee.

The Home Computing Initiative (HCI) gives employees the opportunity to gain an internet-ready, home computer at a saving of at least 40%. The Comcen4Home HCI program gives employees access to email, home shopping, multimedia entertainment and on-line learning content, helping the whole family to develop their IT skills.

Gary Stone, Managing Director at Comcen, commented: "The Comcen4home program is a great benefit for staff and their families, which will also enable employees to develop transferable skills and contribute towards the future success of the organisation. One of the key reasons for companies to participate in a HCI scheme is to maintain high staff retention as well as to attract new employees.

"From a business perspective HCI is cost-neutral and UK businesses will be certainly missing out if they do not take advantage of the scheme."

The Home Computing Initiative (HCI) was first introduced in 1999 and re-launched at the start of 2004 by Rt. Hon Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. It capitalises on the £500 annual exemption from a taxable benefit on loaned computers and means that employees can get hundreds of pounds off computers for use in the home typically up to a value of £1500. Staff pay for the computers out of their monthly pre tax and NI pay via a salary sacrifice.
