Profile: Imaginet

Founded in 1995 by Dave Taylor, Greg Cannon and Nigel Roberts, Imaginet was bourne out of a need for a high quality web design agency in Wales. With backgrounds in IT consultancy and design, the team set about establishing the company as a total solutions provider that could help businesses achieve their on-line objectives and goals. The company grew quickly winning major contracts with the Wales Tourist Board and the Welsh Development Agency, and in order to maintain their own business objectives, Imaginet employed a high calibre of staff to stay on top of the ever changing industry needs, while developing stringent project management processes. Today, Imaginet is run by Dave Taylor and Nigel Roberts supported by a strong team of highly experienced, innovative and diverse staff. The company continues to win awards for their work and business has extended to Ireland, London and North Yorkshire.

Sali Earls spoke to Managing Director Nigel Roberts to find out more about this leading Welsh business.

Nigel Roberts, Managing Director of Imaginet

What unique products and services does your company provide?
We decided very early on that the best way to offer our customers best value, in terms of a quality solution at a competitive price, was to develop a range of products and services that could be easily plugged into each solution quickly and simply, even with bespoke elements. To this end, we have a wide range of products and services that will help achieve every type of business objective, such as our Content Management Systems, which all use our superb formatting system called i-edit and allow customers to control their website themselves; an e-commerce package, i-shop, that provides businesses with everything they need to get started in e-commerce; an electronic customer relationship management system to maintain easy contact with customers via email or SMS text messaging and a wide range of design and on-line marketing services including extensive skills in web accessibility.

What's been the key to your success?
I believe that the key to our success has been the whole company's dedication to information communication technology and how it can benefit society as a whole. We've always looked at the big picture and this has helped us to stay ahead of the game and deliver above our customers' expectations.

What one piece of third party technology has benefited your company most?
One service that Imaginet has used extensively over the years is a third party internet payment service provider. This enables our clients wanting to sell on-line to do so in a secure environment, so their customers can enter their credit card details without fear of fraudulent use. I cannot stress how important this has been and always will be and we've never had any problems with fraud on any of our websites as a result.

What one piece of advice would you give to start-up companies in your field?
Invest in good staff who are passionate about the industry, develop stringent project processes and decide exactly where you want to position yourselves in the marketplace and then go for it!

Where do you see your company going in the future?
Imaginet has high hopes for the future, despite a far more competitive market in 2005 than back in 1995 when we started! We've established ourselves as one of the best web agencies in the UK and continue to compete and win against some of the major agencies in London. We will always be a total solutions provider, enhancing and developing our products and services as we go and continually looking to the future to see what the next big thing in new media is going to be. In this way, our customers can always rest assured in the knowledge that they are getting the best web solution possible.
