Iiyama Pro 1411 17" Monitor

By Matthew Pearce

When it comes to office monitors, it's the 17-inches that probably account for the largest share of the market. Hence, there's plenty of competition at every price range, and with the advent of TFT screens, prices for your fatter 17" monitors have slimmed considerably.

The Iiyama Pro 1411 is such a keenly-priced flat screen monitor. Retailing at around £200 with a 15.75" viewable image and a Mitsubishi Diamondtron NF tube, it's a well-engineered affair at the price, and this is reflected in the performance. Picture quality is good. The completely flat screen presents images that are bright, well-coloured and stable, with little or no distortion. And the refresh rate is high: 85 Hertz at a 1024 x 768 resolution. Less flicker means a better viewing experience - the Iiyama is focused and sharp. The screen is flexible, too. Go to the control panel and you can tweak the picture to suit your own particular needs.

Does it pass the mobile test? Yes. The screen remains perfectly unruffled when you use your mobile, so you can happily chat as you type. Does it pass the style test? Not quite. But the monitor does look fairly neat, and it's compact for a 17".

The verdict, then, is that the Iiyama is good buy. It covers all the basics well, but ultimately it's the quality of the picture makes it a solid choice of screen. We give it 8/10 .
